PHP is a computer programming language that is mostly focused towards creating dynamic websites right from the beginning. PHP is intended to run on a server and provide response to client’s request. Unlike other programming languages, its code can easily be embedded inside HTML code.
The development of PHP programming language was started back in 1994 by a Danish-Canadian programmer Rasmus Lerdorf. At first, he created few CGI (Common Gateway Interface) programs in C language to manage his personal website easily. Rasmus kept on improving these set of programs to handle processing of web forms as well as connect with the database for CRUD (Create, Retrieve, Update and Delete) operations.
The history of PHP continued
On June 8, 1995 Rasmus released these small programs for general public so that people around the world can help him by reporting any errors or improving the code base. He called it as version 1.0 of Personal Home Page Tools, also known as PHP/FI (Personal Home Page/Forms Interpreter). Rasmus Lerdorf said that he never thought of creating a new programming language, he didn’t even know how to create one! He just kept improving the existing code step by step. After seeing this interesting project; open source community of developers joined him on his journey and in November 1997 they released version 2.0 of PHP/FI.
